Cagayan De Oro’s High Tourism potential

Sec. Joseph Ace Durano, Department of Tourism, has high hopes for Cagayan De Oro as one of the Philippines’ top tourist destination. This was the observation of Durano after visiting the city for the annual Kumbira Culinary Show and Live Competitions at Limketkai Center, Cagayan De Oro last year.

As the tourism overseer for the country, he noticed that the ‘fastest growing sector is adventure sports and eco-tourism.’ These two aspects of tourism are well-possessed by Cagayan De Oro such as the infamous White Water Rafting and the Macahambus Adventure Park.

What it takes for Cagayan De Oro to achieve its high tourism potential, for one, is an entry point for tourists. Durano believes that with the commissioning of the Laguindingan Airport in the city, more tourists both foreign and domestic would be attracted to visit the city. The international airport will most likely increase the passenger traffic. This is a great news then!

Indeed, Cagayan De Oro has made itself known as years passed by. With the recent developments in structures and tourism, Cagayan De Oro is truly promising. Who knows, this city might just end up becoming one of the cities to visit before you die.
