CDO poets compete for Balak Idol

City Tourism Board and Cagayan De Oro City Government have agreed to allow students join the pioneering “Balak Idol: Cagayan De Oro Edition” on a category of their own. This will be on May 23, 2010.

“BALAK” signifies a debate in poetic verse. Ingrid Chaves-Agudo, City Tourism Board member, thinks that this type of art is slowly becoming extinct and that hopefully this contest can revive it. She said that the contest basically aims to instill pride and confidence on every person’s ancestry and of course to preserve this type of art.

For interested poets, the contest is open to all Kagay-anons. The registration form must have the signature of the contestant’s Barangay Captain certifying his/her residency in the barangay.

Every Balak must be at least two minutes in length with a maximum time of five minutes. Offensive materials will not be accepted.

More information is available at the office of the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office at the City Hall of Cagayan De Oro.
