SM CITY KAGAY-AN PYRO FESTIVAL
The SM City Kagay-an Pyro Festival , the first ever Fireworks competition in the city, was first held last August 29, 2009 in partnership with the City Government, Promote CDO Foundation, Inc. Pueblo de Oro and ABSCBN. With 7 participants , which were Fireworks manufacturers from Dumaguete City, Cebu City, Manila, Bocaue Bulacan, Iligan City and Cagayan de Oro City this Fireworks spectacle made history after it gathered an estimated crowd of over 200,000 and thus was dubbed as the biggest crowd ever in a single event in the city.
Last year, gathering even more than 200,000 and again with 7 participating Fireworks manufacturers, this second SM City Fireworks Competition once again captured the hearts of Kagay-anons last August 29, 2010.
This year, SM City Cagayan de Oro will once again partner with the City Government , Promote CDO Foundation, Inc., Pueblo de Oro and ABSCBN for the 3rd SM City Kagay-an Pyro Festival- to mount a grander and bigger Fireworks Competition on August 26, 2011, as a prelude to the City’s fiesta celebration.
With longer preparation, bigger prizes and grander presentations, the 3rd SM City Kagay-an Pyro festival is expected to render thousands of Kagay-anons in awe for what could be the biggest Fireworks Competition ever in Cagayan de Oro City’s history.
Partner Organization: SM City

5th GOLDEN FLOAT PARADE COMPETITION
Major Cities in the world have, in one form or another, a grand parade to celebrate and honor these cities heritage. The Golden Float Parade follows in the tradition of Cagayan de Oro Civic-Military Parade. This parade showcases the myriad characters of our city’s institutions, organizations, interest groups, industries, police and branches of the military – all in commemoration of their collective contribution to the socio-cultural-economic-religi?ous development of Cagayan de Oro. What more opportune time to feature this, than the Fiesta of Cagayan de Oro’s patron, Saint Augustine.
The Golden Float Parade Competition features different float entries from participating Companies, Government, Non-Government and Private Organizations, Schools, and Agencies. This will be held in the morning of August 27, 2011 along the main city streets. Each float depicts a themed design or drama recounting Cagayan de Oro’s growth and development, history, people or cultural or event. Cash prizes at stake are: 1st prize – P150,000; 2nd Prize – P100,000; 3rd Prize – 50,000.
This year’s Golden Float Parade will primarily follow last year’s format. It will be a Civic-Military Parade with the Golden Float Parade Competition as the main feature. The route shall also begin at the Rodelsa Circle, passes through Velez St. and the National Highway, and end at the main road of the Limketkai Center. Participating bands shall be limited to 12 and the competing floats shall be towards the tail end of the parade.

HALAD SA LAMBAGOHAN
The Halad sa Lambagohan goes beyond the fiesta celebration in each of our homes. Lambagohan is the original name of Cagayan de Oro, referring to the lush lambago trees thriving in our riverbanks; they signify our community’s stake of identity, of pride of place, of community life. Our Halad to the Lambagohan is therefore an offering of thanksgiving for the nurturing care the riverine spirits have afforded to our community. And so we offer a harvest of the expressions of the spirit and soul of Kagay-anons in our journey towards excellence. We offer all our hopes and dreams and good wishes. We offer our poetry, our songs, our dances, our artistic yearnings for a better world for each and everyone of us. We offer our art and soul, our heart and minds, our wondrous imaginings. This harvest of voice and vision is what Halad sa Lambagohan is about a week-long harvest of the Kagay-anons’ preeminence in art and culture on the world stage. Organized by Liceo de Cagayan University and the Zealep Group of Companies, in particular the Paseo del Rio de Cagayan, Inc., the Halad sa Lambagohan is open to the public free of charge on August 22 to 28, 2011 at the Rodelsa Circle, the only public park in the city that has become the happening place for art and culture aficionados.
Partner Organization (s): Liceo de Cagayan University and Paseo Del Rio

KAHIMUNAN REGIONAL TRADE FAIR
Locally-made products of the region will be displayed and sold at the Limketkai Mall Rotunda on August 22 – 28, 2011. The trade fair will be highlighted with a special setting of the One-Town, One-Product (OTOP) of the different cities, municipalities, and provinces of Region 10. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will spearhead the event together with various local producers.
Partner Organization: Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)

Looks like 2011 is a good start for the 3D Digital trend here in Cagayan de Oro as Gaisano Mall is also joining the bandwagon with the opening of their first 3D cinema in this city. I’ve posted yesterday that Limketkai Mall will be opening their 3D theater on February 2, 2011. While Gaisano Mall’s Cinema 2 had it’s soft opening last week with movie tickets sold at only 200php with free popcorn. Now there’s officially three competing 3D cinemas in CDO, how cool is that? You can now watch your favorite 3D movie anywhere you like. Gaisano’s cinema 2 will also be showing the movie ‘Tangled’ and more 3D movies in the months to come. Yay!

Here’s the article written by Jill Lejano last December 4, 2010:

1. Go white water rafting in Cagayan de Oro.
2. Visit Batanes.
3. See Mt. Mayon up close.
4. Swim with the whale sharks in Donsol.
5. Climb Mt. Pulag and be awed by its sea of clouds.
6. Dive, swim and explore Palawan’s underground river.
7. Hike and let the view of Mt. Pinatubo crater take your breath away.
8. Party in your bikini in Boracay.
9. Surf’s up! Choose your wave—La Union, Zambales or Real, Quezon.
10. Missed out on the pristine beauty of Boracay 15 years ago? Visit Malapascua, Cebu.
11. Dive and see the rich marine life of Anilao, Batangas.
12. Travel back in time—go to Vigan.
13. Let Bohol wow you with its many offerings—the Chocolate Hills, the tarsier, the Loboc River Cruise, old churches and the beach.
14. Go high! Drive to the Mountain Province of Sagada. Check out the caves, the hanging coffins and enjoy the laidback lifestyle.
15. Grab a Viaje del Sol map, visit Ugu Binyan’s pottery studio, eat at Kusina Salud and unwind at Casa San Pablo.
16. Spend an entire week up north. Take a road trip from Manila to Vigan, Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Aparri and Isabela!
17. Try wakeboarding in Camsur.
18. Check out Malate, Old Manila and all their secret spots.
19. There are many reasons to love Davao. Kublai’s artworks, its proximity to the beach, the tasty pastil and juicy suha. And did I mention that it’s a smoke-free city?
20. Spend a weekend roughing it in Anawangin and Capones in Zambales.
21. Check out our colorful fiestas and document them with your camera. Ati-atihan, Dinagyang, Masskara, Sinulog, Higantes, Panagbenga and more.
22. Pick your own strawberries at the Strawberry Fields in La Trinidad, Benguet.
23. Go to Pampanga for sisig.
24. If it’s too hot in Manila, grab a few friends and take a quick trip to Tagaytay.
25. Enjoy a food trip in Iloilo. You’ll never go hungry in this city.

The Cagayan de Oro whitewater rafting adventure is already being recognized as one of the country’s popular tourist activities. Since CDO river is known for its powerful rapids and untouched environment, it has been one of the best tourist inviting attractions in the city aside from the Zip Line at Dahilayan Adventure Park Bukidnon, which is also a must visit and a must try when in CDO. With the best whitewater rafting outfitters providing excellent service to their guests, there’s no doubt why PDI chose CDO whitewater rafting to be on top of the list.
