Macahambus Gorge now a Heritage Site

Macahambus Gorge, the 175 hectare land located in the barangays of Lumbia and Bayanga is now considered a heritage site by the city government of Cagayan de Oro. The historical site in which the Battle of Macahambus Hill took place during the time of the second world war is being preserved and improved to attract local and foreign visitors as well as investors, making it an eco-tourism site rich with historical significance and natural beauty.

The area is currently being surveyed by the members of the City Council’s committee on tourism together with the Cagayan de Oro Heritage Council, the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the City Tourism office.

Local and foreign visitors are invited to visit the Macahambus Adventure Park, one of the featured attractions here in Cagayan de Oro. The nature park offers sky bridge and zip line adventures for thrill seekers and explorers. On the other side of the road is the Macahambus cave. The cave is developed with easy to walk paths and a trail that leads to an outlook from a cave opening down to the meandering Cagayan River, known for its great rapids and famous for whitewater rafting adventure. The natural surroundings of the Macahambus forest reserve is definitely worth the visit.
