Media practitioners gather for Phil Trade Policy

If you are a media practitioner, then you have to get yourself moving to Dynasty Court Hotel on March 23, 2010. You will be having a day seminar on Philippine Trade Policy from 9 am to 5 pm.

This seminar would provide you, a media practitioner, a framework on trade issues and allow you to educate consumers all issues and challenges that local industries face in the midst of global competition.

The event is sponsored by Cagayan De Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation Inc. along with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mindanao.

Spearheading the seminar is the Ideals’ Economic Rights-International Trade Program.

Nacaya favors students, suggests brownouts be at daytime

City Councilor Ian Nacaya favors the students in Cagayan De Oro in the issue of brownout schedules. He urged the Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company (CEPALCO) to change all brownout schedules to daytime.

Nacaya thinks having brownout schedules at nighttime cause a lot of hassles.

“Students also have a hard time studying without proper light illumination and petty crimes in the city have already soared high,” Councilor Nacaya said.

He justified that if it was possible to neglect the brownout schedule last Sunday and have electricity the whole day then it would also be possible to change all schedules to daytime.

The environmental officer and customer and community relations supervisor of CEPALCO thinks it’s beyond their control. Lloyd Castillo says the brownouts depend on the load curtailment for the day. These loads are issued daily through a report by the National Grid Corporation.

Cybersex rate increases in the metro

Northern Mindanao’s National Bureau of Investigation reported more cases of cybersex in the recent operation done in Barangay Kauswagan, Cagayan De Oro.

NBI-Northern Mindanao Director Jose Justo Yap reported that cybersex dens are being operated here in Cagayan De Oro. The recently raided den’s building is owned by Jimmy Melba Onghay. Two other suspects for the cybersex den operation include policeman Abdul Barry Usman Imam and Yusoph Mama Jr. a.k.a. Chris Ibarra. They will be filed with charge on human trafficking as stated in the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 (RA 9208).

NBI-Northern Mindanao should look into this issue further. As of this writing, more Internet cafes still allow human trafficking. Owners may or may not be aware of it but there is most likely a big number of cafes operating with people–students at that, ripping their clothes off in front of a webcam.

Cagayan de Oro Brownout Schedule (March 17-28,2010)

CEPALCO just released a new public notice concerning the scheduled rotational brownouts in Cagayan de Oro for the 3rd and 4th week of March 2010, starting March 17 to 28.

Please find below the load shedding schedule [5 hours DAILY rotating brownouts] within the CEPALCO service area for the period March 17 to March 28, 2010 due to the continuing power supply curtailments imposed by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines [NGCP] all over Mindanao. Again, CEPALCO would like to caution customers that the actual switch off and switch on time may vary from the announced schedule depending on the actual load curtailment levels imposed by NGCP on CEPALCO on a day to day basis.

Cagayan De Oro feels light with Pacquiao’s victory

People who watched Manny Pacquiao vs Joshua Clottey fight at SM Cagayan de Oro came out light and generally expectant. Excitement wasn’t in the air as they found out the result.

Were Kagay-anons already expecting Pacman’s victory over Clottey? Or did the people at SM CDO find the fight boring?

But at the end of the day, Manny Pacquiao won with a unanimous decision. Reading the fight’s rundown alone, it was a little obvious that our very own Pacman was at it.
