Operation: Shoe Box 2013

Operation: Shoe Box 2013 is a project of the Development Communication Society in partnership with the Religious Studies Department, Campus Ministry, NSTP, and the Aggie Student Council of Xavier University Ateneo de Cagayan. The project aims to reach out to less fortunate grade school students in rural areas even in small ways.

Here’s how you can ‘Shoe’ your love in 3 easy steps:
1.) Fill a shoe box with at least 5 notebooks, 3 pencils, a box of crayons, ruler, sharpener and eraser.
2.) Write an inspiring letter to the recipient of the box. With the personal notes, each box will be special.
3.) Wrap the shoe box in colorful paper.

The recipients of this project are kids from: Balay Canossa Foundation, Inc. (Tablon, CDO), Mother Theresa Foundation (Upper Puerto, CDO), Calabrian Children’s Foundation, Inc. (Bayabas, CDO), Foundation of our Lady of Divine Love, Inc. (Camaman-an, CDO), including 8 Sitios in Kalagangan in Simsimon (San Fernando, Bukidnon) and Kagahuman (Malitbog, Bukidnon).

So if you’re interested to share, just send your box to the drop off point at the XU satellite canteen fronting the Aggie Building from Jan 8-28, 2013.

We may not be SHOEperheroes, but a box can make SHOE much difference. Because GREAT things come from SMALL acts done with pure LOVE.

Typhoon Pablo will hit Cagayan de Oro

Super typhoon Pablo (with International Name “Bopha“) is said to hit Cagayan de Oro and other neighboring provinces tomorrow at 2pm, December 4, 2012. The public storm signal warning has already been raised to alert level 3 as 7 areas all over Mindanao will be badly hit by the said typhoon, which will be carrying heavy rains and winds of up to 175 kilometers per hour (kph) maximum with gustiness of up to 210 kph. Local government agencies and disaster preparedness teams are setting up camps in preparation for the worst case scenario that could happen anytime tomorrow. Classes are temporarily suspended and will resume when the storm is already out of the city’s area of responsibility. The government is also requesting everyone staying at flood prone areas to temporarily evacuate and stay at nearby relief shelters and evacuation centers. Typhoon Pablo is said to be stronger than typhoon Sendong, which struck Cagayan de Oro last year that took the lives of many of our fellow Kagay-anons. According to PAGASA, Typhoon Pablo will be entering Surigao del Sur before heading west towards Palawan. Pablo is expected to cross Agusan and Cagayan de Oro, two of the most devastated areas during the Sendong calamity last 2011. Make sure that you are prepared when the storm hits tomorrow, be alert at all times and if you’re in a safe place stay there and only leave if it’s an emergency. Also take note of important numbers to contact in case of emergencies. Be proactive and be alert at all times and let’s hope and pray that we will all be safe.
